Tuesday July 2nd marked the beginning of another Philpott season, another seven weeks of free tennis lessons for children in high priority needs neighbourhoods. The program runs until August 16th.
This year we are pleased to be offering lessons at sixteen sites, namely Antibes Community Centre, Cabbagetown Youth Centre, Dovercourt Boys & Girls Club, Flemingdon Park Community Centre (CC), Grandravine CC, Jimmie Simpson Community Recreation Centre (CRC), John Innes CRC, Kingsview Village CC, Lawrence Heights CC, Malvern CRC, Maple Leaf Park, McGregor Park CRC, Parkdale CRC, Oakridge CRC, San Romanoway and L’Amoreaux.
Enrollment is organized through Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation (see the FUNGUIDE or contact the site recreation director), through the Cabbagetown Youth Centre, San Romanoway Revitalization Assosciation, Dovercourt, West and North Scarborough Boys and Girls Club.
Lessons run from 9 am to 1 pm and are open to children between the ages of 5 and 15. The lesson for 5 and 6 years olds are at 9 am, 7 to 9 year olds are at 10 am, 10 to 12 year olds are at 11 am and 13 and up have lessons at noon. Equipment is provided. Running shoes are a necessity and a sunhat and sunscreen is recommended.
Each site has 2 trained and energetic tennis instructors. They are ready and willing to teach fun, informative and safe lessons. Each hour is limited to 20 campers and minimum enrollment is for one week. Fridays are celebrated with freezes, mini tournaments and certificates for the youngest children.
