ABOUT SERVE TO SUCCEED

Serve to Succeed provides an important development opportunity for our Philpott youth, and an immediate chance for executives to give back to the next generation of leaders.

This intimate event brings together women leaders and youth from Philpott’s Girls Leadership program for an afternoon of tennis, followed by an off-court mentoring and networking session where the girls can learn and be inspired by the stories and experiences of seasoned executives.

Network with Leaders from diverse industries

Our sponsors and executive participants represent a wide range of roles and industries.  Participants have included professionals from global engineering firm Arup, financial service firms, law firms, packaged good companies, and entrepreneurs running women-owned businesses.

Provide a Development opportunity for Philpott youth

This event aces it when it comes to providing a meaningful development opportunity for our youth. They are given a safe environment to practice and build networking skills, be comfortable in a room of executives, and share their own stories with confidence.  Our special spotlight interviews also offer the chance to practice their public speaking skills in front of a supportive group rooting for their success.

Philpott youth and Leadership Program Graduate, Oyin, shares her story with the group during a spotlight interview with Caroline Cameron.

Enjoy spotlight Interviews

Putting Caroline Cameron’s media skills to work, we include short interviews throughout the day, with our youth and executives, to learn from each other’s stories and advice.

Pictured here, Alyssa Buetikofer, Chief Marketing Officer at McDonald’s Canada, shares her personal mantra to “be your authentic self”, and the importance of leaning into new opportunities; which was important in her rise at McDonald’s, where she held a variety of roles across North America on her way to a C-suite position.

Be part of A special community of support

Philpott youth are introduced to the broader tennis community which is known for its inclusivity, camaraderie, and shared passion for sport.

Knowing that there is a special community to support you and ‘have your back’ is a priceless asset that breeds confidence and belonging.  Ultimately, these feelings of support provide a foundation for youth to aim high, pursue their goals with confidence, and in time, pay it forward to others as well.

The networking portion brings together executives and youth for shared learning and support.

Keep girls in sport

This event also plays a role in keeping girls engaged in sport and healthy activity, at an age when dropout rates in sport are high among girls.  From sharing laughs on the court to connecting with inspiring executives who prove that tennis and staying active can be lifelong passions that remain an important part of their successful lives, this event gives girls every reason to keep swinging.

Philpott youth love the chance to meet new players.
A special chance to give back

The best part about Serve to Succeed is the immediate chance to give back to our youth in a unique event that brings together our program participants and supporters.

The executive participants are keen to make a difference, offering a full afternoon of their time, and sharing their resources and expertise to support the Philpott community.

From EVENT participants

During the networking portion I got to know Angie and learned of her interest in sports analytics. I was able to connect her with a great contact at the Raptors. Thanks for building an impactful event that gave me the chance to make a little difference.

"I enjoyed the entire day. My favourite part was the chance to play with some very skilled players, and then I loved the conversations we were able to have after the tennis."

It is always a huge inspiration to be surrounded by so many successful women. One takeaway for me was that it's ok to not be certain about my future career plans."
