The history of the Ladies Invitational

In 1984, a group of women from the Toronto Lawn Tennis Club organized a small tennis tournament, raised a small amount of money and donated that money to charity. Over the past 30 years, this tournament has grown into the Philpott Ladies’ Doubles Invitational Tournament and Gala, which now is held annually at the end of January and attended by over 250 women from more than 40 teams from the greater Toronto area.

While the Tournament was first hosted by the Toronto Lawn, where Doug Philpott was an active member, over time a number of other private tennis clubs stepped up to host the event and today, the hosting is shared by The Toronto Lawn, The Badminton & Racquet Club, The Boulevard Club, The Granite Club, the Toronto Cricket and Skating Club, and Bayview Golf and Country Club who will be hosting the 2023 Ladies Invitational.

Philpott Children’s Tennis is constantly growing and is determined to continue expanding.

What Our Philpott Campers Say

I am very grateful for the funding that has got me here. I truly hope that this support will always be here for as many people as possible to participate in this program that will forever allow more and more people my age to play and learn tennis.
Syed Muhammad Zafar Alam
TSLP Participant,
Future Philpott Coach
One of the campers this year told me that he never played tennis before. He said that his favorite sport is now tennis. After I showed him my certificate I received as a child, he mentioned that one day, he wants to become an instructor.”
When I become a Coach, it's not going to be because of the money. I want it to be for a charity like Philpott. I never thought there would be a program like this to fund me. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to become the best of me and teach kids!”

THANK YOU!

Philpott Children’s Tennis would like to thank all of you and your support.  Your contribution to Philpott Childrens Tennis allows over 4,500 prioritized children and youth across Toronto each year to play tennis free-of-charge.  With your help, we can continue to expand our program and have a deeper engagement with the kids through more camps and more tennis.  Philpott Children’s Tennis, along with our Philpott Campers, Parents, Volunteers and Coaches say THANK YOU!

Run a Philpott Fundraiser

Participants collect pledges from family and friends and play tennis from 2pm until midnight with many of the participants breaking their curfews for the first time in a great cause. Check out our 2018 Tennis-a-Thon video!

Automatically add $5 to $10 to your membership fees and write a one-time cheque to Philpott Children’s Tennis at the end of your membership drive. You may also attach an additional fee to an event or tournament. Make sure you let members know that part of their fees will go to support a great cause!

Set up a “DONATE NOW” button (provided by Philpott Children’s Tennis) and ask each member to donate $5, $10 or $20 on your home page.

Add a silent auction to one of your events. If you are running a big end of the year event you can ask members or partners to donate Auction Items. This is a great way to get members engaged, add some fun to your event and raise a little money for a charity.

During the month of May, we are asking for new and gently used racquets, and most especially junior racquets, to be collected and donated to our Philpott children.  To activate this program at your club, please have a club ambassador connect with us to get started.

Testimonials from Donors and Volunteer Event Organizers

"Without tennis we would not be the same people that we are today. Thus, we believe that tennis should be shared with other kids who have not been given this amazing opportunity. By starting this 100/100/100 initiative, we want to help Philpott and give back to the game we enjoy so much."

Co-Founder of 100/100/100 Challenge
"For us playing tennis has become the best thing that has ever happened to us and it is one of the main passions in our lives. It has taught us discipline, perseverance, and hard work. It has also given us an opportunity to pursue our dreams."
Spencer Keung
Co-Founder of 100/100/100 Challenge
“I love tennis. It’s an important part of my life. I want to help other kids experience the joy I get from tennis. I also have my eye on volunteering for Doug Philpott Foundation as soon as I’m old enough. I love working with little kids and being able to expose them to tennis would be awesome.”
