Greenwin Inc. Joins Philpott Children’s Tennis, the City of Toronto and the Believe to Achieve Organization
Group to Launch Tennis Programming in Chalkfarm Community

TORONTO, ON – On Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 11:30 a.m., Greenwin Inc. will join Philpott Children’s Tennis, the City of Torontoand the Believe to Achieve Organization to launch tennis programming for at-risk youth in the Chalkfarm community.

Modelled after Philpott’s summer camp at Greenwin’s 25 San Romanoway Drive, the program, which aims to introduce Toronto’s inner-city children to tennis, will be run by qualified instructors who will teach not only the basics of the game, but also discipline, cooperation and self-confidence.

Headquartered at Chalkfarm Park Tennis Courts (34 Heavitree Drive), the camp is free of charge and will run every summer from July through August from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is expected to serve hundreds of kids every year. The Philpott Inner City Children’s Tennis Fund will provide the instructors and equipment.

“We’re excited to see yet another important activity running for the children of this community right behind our property,” said Kris Boyce, CEO, Greenwin Inc. “Combined with Believe to Achieve’s Youth Drop-In Centre, which operates out of Greenwin’s Oaks on the Green complex, this neighbourhood has transitioned into a vibrant hub that’s rooted in athleticism and leadership.”

Offering a fun, active, instructive alternative to summer inactivity, obesity and crime, the physical fitness benefits of Philpott Children’s Tennis are direct and immediate. “We believe that the key to strong, healthy communities is having children involved in physical fitness and skills-building activities at an early age,” said Sharon Arnold, Philpott Founding Board MemberChildren in our programs not only learn the sport of tennis, they learn interpersonal skills, problem-solving and teamwork.”

“Believe to Achieve is thrilled to welcome Philpott Children’s Tennis to the Chalkfarm area,” added Spider Jones, Founder, Believe to Achieve“Every kid deserves a chance to thrive and we know that access to sport and friendly competition are key to building self esteem and the promise of a brighter future.”

Major sponsors include Tennis Canada, Ontario Tennis Association, Head Canada and Wilson Sports, Canadian Tire Jumpstart, Merchant of Tennis and the Daniel Nestor Foundation. Philpott is also supported by a Board of Directors, a Tennis Committee and countless volunteers, who participate both on and off the courts.

About Philpott Children’s Tennis

Philpott Children’s Tennis is offered free-of-charge to Toronto children and youth ages 5 -15, living in priority needs neighbourhoods, who would otherwise not have access to such activities. We hire 40 qualified instructors to teach tennis at each of our 19 summer camps, which are located across Toronto, including downtown, Scarborough, Etobicoke and Jane & Finch. Our partnership with the Toronto Sports Leadership program offers youth the opportunity to volunteer at our camps, preparing them for Tennis Canada certification and then future paid employment as tennis instructors. Philpott children learn more than tennis – they learn important lessons about discipline, cooperation, physical fitness and self-confidence.

About the Believe to Achieve Organization

Believe to Achieve (BTA) is a registered non-profit charity with a mission to inspire at-risk-youth, students and troubled teens to remain in school and make achieving dreams a reality. BTA, based in Toronto, is managed and aggressively driven by media personality and three-time Golden Glove boxing champion, Chuck ‘Spider’ Jones and his support team. A non-denominational, youth empowerment and outreach organization, BTA works with kids regardless of race, physical traits, social status, community, cultural background or other life-limiting obstacles/restrictions. A major part of BTA’s energy goes into Spider’s Web, an after-school drop-in centre in Toronto’s Jane/Wilson corridor.
