The Philpott Children’s Tennis summer program was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic but that did not stop the Charity from staying connected with its community earlier this week. In partnership with Jane/Finch Community Tennis Association, Philpott gave away gift packages to families that were invited to the Aviva Centre in North York and the L’Amoreaux Tennis Centre in Scarborough at scheduled intervals to ensure social distancing. The packages included age appropriate racquet (new), balls, map of city locations to play at, COVID safety tips for tennis and some fun drills.

An important feature of the day was the distribution of racquets for parents as well; helping them to stay active and so they can play with their children. Families were very appreciative of the Charities’ efforts. Presently there are very few options to stay active and many barriers including access to facilities and equipment. Participants were encouraged to play against school walls.

One of the challenges, especially for new immigrant families, is to find friends to play tennis with. Philpott is working on helping to connect families so they can play tennis and make new friends.
